Prayers for the Journey

Here are the prayers that I have posted each morning on the Light for the Journey facebook page since the beginning of Lent.

God today we open our hearts to your love
May we be aware of it deep within our souls
And reach out with its all encompassing embrace
May we share its compassionate touch
And fill others with the grace of your presence

May we be swept up in the love of God, held in the eternal embrace,
May we be drenched in the presence of God, filled with the life giving Spirit,
May we be grace with the forgiveness of God, redeemed by the risen Christ,
May we remember the gift of God’s son and give thanks.

Lord Jesus Christ I trust my life to you

My times are in your hands

Before I was formed you knew me

I give my past to you

So that you can uncover and heal my pain

Each day you sustain and give life to me

I give this present moment to you

So that I can live fully immersed in your ways

Your thoughts of me are precious

I give my future to you

So that I can become all that you intend me to be

Past, present, future are all held in your abiding presence,

May I live always in the knowledge of your unfailing love

May we look from the heart of God

And see afresh enormous love poured out

A son hung upon a tree and crucified

May we return to the womb of love where God holds close

And suffer in union with the God of compassion

Unafraid to share life with hurting neighbours near and far

God lead us like a shepherd
When we stray search for us, when we are lost find us
When we do not understand hold us
You who are patient and kind carry us in your arms forever

Go into the day with hope and trust
Enter into all that comes in the love of Christ
Greet all that happens expected and unanticipated
And walk with God’s grace and peace

God is our rock and our security
God is the one in whom we trust
Let us rest to the One who holds us at all times
Let us trust on the One who never lets go

God when we do not know how to pray speak for us
For those in the midst of despair and disaster
For those who are afraid of what tomorrow may hold
For those who feel abandoned and alone
God show mercy, comfort and care

God when we are weak strengthen us
God when we are bound set us free
God where we are lost search and find us
And draw us close to your abiding love

God may we enter the deepest places of our hearts
And discover the lostness within
God may we open the doors that your love may enter
And allow you to touch us and heal us

In the light of Christ all that is dull and ugly
Can be transformed into beauty and joy
Praise be to God through whom all things are made new

Merciful God may your love rest on us
Your compassion embrace us
Your transforming power flow through us
Loving God may your forgiveness set us free

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
All that is not of God must die
May we repent of ways that do not serve you
And admit to tensions that tell us where we need to change

May you shine in the light that is Christ
So that your true colours can be revealed
May your life be filled with his light
So that you reflect his glory
May you live always in his light
And become all God intends you to be
