Mark Pierson’s Lenten Guide

Each year our good friend and alternative worship innovator Mark Pierson from New Zealand sends us a wonderful series of reflections for Lent.  You can download the entire guide here

As well as that we have another new post for the Lenten synchroblog

Steven Fouch:  One Week Into Lent

Also there are some excellent new reflections on the Anglican prayer blog: Lent and Beyond

As an Australian I love the powerful imagery that Mark Pierson uses from Jan Hynes in Townsville and so could not resist reproducing those images here. The first is for Ash Wednesday and even though that is well and truly over I thought that you would appreciate this beautiful interpretation of burning the ashes made even more vivid for me because of the reminder of the recent devastating fires in Australia

Palm Sunday Reflection

It may seem that there is an inevitability about what will happen to Jesus in the enxt few days, but he is moving forward by his own choices.  He may not choose his destination but he is choosing his journey.  He is neither a helpless pawn nor a victim of circumstance.  Today the crowds celebrate him for what they hope he will be – their ticket out of oppression.  In a week they will call for him to be crucified because he didn’t deliver freedom in the way they wanted him to.  How can you know you are on the right journey?  Which is more improtant to you – the journey or the destination?  Which is God most interested in?
