The religious code of persons in conflict with the law can be considered well, but not within the framework of a court case. If Sharia law can be used in civil cases to make out-of-court settlements, I say use it. But, the court system needs to strictly adhere to constitutional standards. These may evolve somewhat over time (and they may come to reflect more Muslim teachings), but Williams is jumping a bit too quick in my book.
